How Sad Is It...
When an Ukrainian opposition candidate is poisoned? Seriously, if this is a deliberate poisoning, what was going on in the poisoner's mind? Not only is the poisoning a potential to kill Yushchenko's career, but it could maim him for a long time, if not life.
Apparently, many people believe that Yushchenko was poisoned because he was somewhat popular before the first election (there is a second one in a couple weeks because of discrepancies in the first once, Yushchenko lost it, by the way) and some constituents were concerned that if he were to get in office, their whole world would change.
I understand that a lot of people are scared of change. That's fine, I used to be like you. But, for me, I now thrive on change. If it wasn't for change, the world would not be advancing the way it is. Cancers would not be in remission, AIDS patients would not be living for decades, democracy would not be available to countries, gay rights, suffrage, racial freedom, free speech, the bill of rights, etc. Basically, the world as we know it would not be the world we know today. Personally, my world has been consistently changing for the past 6 1/2 years! I've moved away from home, been back home, changed attitudes, beliefs, and actions. When I first went to college, I hated change--thinking I should always stay the same--now I crave it. Go figure.
It's so easy to stay in a safe, comfortable environment, but that's not what nature intended. If Mother Nature wanted us to stay comfortable, she would have never born the mountain lion.
