Bull Durham Review

So, if there's one thing Jeff hates more than me putting Chick Flick on Netflix, it's when I move the queue around. Well, I did both recently.

I had seen the sex scene between Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner at the end of the film, but I have never actually seen the rest of the movie. I think that sex scene was on one of those countdown shows about love scenes on one of the music channels. Anyway, we watched the movie yesterday, and I think I can say we both really liked it.

I found it to be a bit trite, because there was too much in-your-face symbolism and foreshadowing. Ok, we get it, Nuke is supposed to be this bad-guy turned good-guy pitcher. Yes, we get it that Crash is supposed to help him, because he was the older, more polished catcher...can you see where this is going? Old guy is down and out, and the new guy needs a mentor. Simple, right? But the fights and the firings, well, those were just a little too hackneyed. (At this point I can hear my brother saying TOUCHE in my ear.)

Oh, and Annie and Millie are basically throwing themselves out to the baseball world as a piece-of-ass: How classy. At least Annie only chose one man per season to sleep with, and actually tried to care for her man. Millie, on the other hand, had to be Shakespearean tamed by the God-fearing clean-cut short stop--they even got married on the diamond.

However, the writing was witty and the actors made their characters seem like real, everyday people. Since I'm a sucker for baseball, I'll give this move 4/5 Sunshines.
