Poke!
Many of you will find this hard to believe, but I had my first ever blood test done on Monday. (Ok, first ever blood test with a needle and not just a lancet.) (And, if you remember correctly, I had my first ever IV inserted in February 2004, so needles in veins is relatively new to me.)
I thought I had caught the mother-load of all colds; I was wheezing, harsh cough, sneezing, could hardly breathe or stay awake. I told the university medical personnel that since my nose didn't itch, it couldn't be my allergies, I mean, it felt like a cold! But, after much consideration and poking and prodding of my chest and back area the medical personnel said it was not pneumonia, or a cold for that matter. But, because I was so bad they wanted to rule out mono and strep and allergies.
The strep test was no problem, because tonsil hockey is always fun! (And, people, before I get a ton of erotic emails, that was a joke.) But, the nurse wouldn't let me watch the blood being taken from my arm. I really wanted to see that, considering I watched the radiology technician put in my IV and give me the radioactive dye. And, since pain was not an issue, this was fast and easy. But, I had to wait around for the results, so I took a quick nap on the exam table.
20 minutes later, I am being told that my allergy level is shooting through the roof--it was a 5 and most people with allergies are between 1-3--and that I need to change back to my old (yet very expensive ) allergy meds.
The clinic was nice enough to give me a 20-day supply of meds, and they were looking into a program where I might be able to get the medication for free. :) That would be fantastic--unless there is some "Sugar Daddy" out there who wants to take care of me! (Once again, this is a joke, because I am happily dating Bubs!)
About 36 hours after the appointment and I'm feeling pretty good. I've still got some wheezing and a nasty cough, plus a back ache and extreme fatigue, but I'm alive!
