The Fashion Statement Episode

After leaving J's on Monday, I decided to make a pit stop in Sioux City to buy groceries before heading back to the university. I was walking down the Easter aisle, looking for bargains, when I noticed this certain woman. Actually, it was hard not to notice her. She was dressed in low tight black pants, a blue stripe down the right and left seam, accented with rhinestones down the seams, plus rhinestones around the waist and pockets ; a tight black shirt, which was obviously stretched to tuck into the pants; and a vibrant blue, feather-like poncho. She wore black, chunky heeled boots, but I don't remember the rest of the accessories.

When I first saw her, I thought she was a tweener, or teenager, but no, she was definitely around 35 (I am being generous here). Anyway, I saw her and just figured that she was a very outgoing person, an individual who has a funky clothing style. It definitely is not my style, nor is it really in fashion right now, but we all have fashion faux pas' like that! And, who was I to judge? I was dressed way down in a white t-shirt, black zip-up university sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers.

So, this man, probably in his 50's, walks past us (I was behind her a bit) and does a double take, then continues on his way. At first I think he's checking her out, however, I soon find out his objective. He walks back to me, gently taps my elbow and says, "Now, isn't that some type of fashion statement," and continues to laugh as he walks away.

All I can do is just nod my head with with a "Yeah," and fake chuckle.

Afterwards, I was pissed. I was pissed that I openly agreed to a blatantly rude comment made by a stranger in public. Now, I'm not pissed that he made fun of her clothes. Stacy and Clinton would definitely throw away that ENTIRE outfit if she was on What Not to Wear. (Yes, that's my favorite reality show! I rarely miss an episode.) But, there's a certain point where things should be said in the privacy of one's home or car, not in the middle of a shopping center!

But, I agreed with a STRANGER IN PUBLIC, people! What was I thinking?
