Got the Top of the World on My Shoulders...
At my parents house we have this Chinese Elm tree on the north side of our lot. It's a medium sized tree with many limbs and provides great shade in the summer, even though it has those ugly brown banana-like seeds hanging from it's long fingers. Today the undressed tree is swaying in the 50 m.p.h. winds. Each long, brown limp bobs from side to side, up and down as though it's a puppet of mother nature. Yet, the trunk stands up firm, unrelenting to Old Man Winter's vicious lungs.
I feel like the trunk of the tree, standing firm, knowing who I am, while some puppet master is messing with me and the 1,728,347 things I have to/want to do in life. I do know that if I am offered the job tomorrow (I think I finally figured out which job it was for) I will make sure they will let me finish up graduate school at South Dakota with night classes. Otherwise, I'll say NO WAY to Nebraska, because this Iowa girl has to finish what she's started.
