News, No News, and Good News

So, a lot has happened over the past day or so, but it was hard to physically tell anyone because our long distance has been down. GRRRRRR! Since the cell phone tower still isn't up, we could only communicate by Internet MSN messenger. Gah, for the love of God, we need to get better communications in rural Iowa.

Speaking of rural Iowa, I swear to God, that we have the cheapest food ever. Whenever I go to town with Mom and we eat out, we rarely spend over $7 together. Today (because I had a coupon from Hy-Vee), my lunch of broccoli cheese soup and tuna salad sandwich (which was freaking huge) cost me...drum roll, please...$1.18. The food was really good, surprisingly, because we ate at Ampride. We usually only eat breakfast there, where you get 2 eggs (or scrambled), 2 pancakes, 2 pieces of baon and 2 pieces of wheat toast for...$2.50! And the grocery stores! They're cheaper still. (Sorry to the non-Iowan's who don't know these store names.) Even when we get chicken from No-Frills Supermaket, it's way cheaper than KFC, the entrie deli is cheap, but the food is great. Somedays we'll eat the specials at the Hy-Vee grocery store, but we don't really shop there because it's a little more expensive than the others, except on their lettuce, it's always cheap. I like shopping at Fareway because they have a lot of fruit and veggies on sale, and just have a lot of healthy food, too. Plus, their meat counter ROCKS. I will actually eat meat if it comes from Fareway. And, our Wal-Mart sucks now, because it is so small and they're trying to jam a grocery store into it. But, you can get some pretty cheap items there, like pasta.

And for the good news, I have an interview on Thursday with VISTA. It's a volunteer civil work department where you get paid like $900 a month, but can get like $4,750 of college loans repaid. I know that's not much to live on per month, but if I can find a city with a friend or relative in it, I might be able to cut the cost of living some. I think, if I get it, I can choose a specific program and city. The only problem is that... well, I don't know where I would want to go, or what I would want to do. I wouldn't mind staying in the midwest, but who knows. I have friends and family all over this country.

As Shakespears says in As You Like It, "All the world is a stage..."
