Weekend Update... (as I see a report was wanted!)

I'm tired, so this will be short!

Saturday: Parent's left at 6:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., Little Donkey and I headed up to Sioux City, and to Donkey's place for the day. We walked around the Southern Hills Mall, found nothing to buy (weird, I know!), then hit church before going out to Lewis and Clark park for the Explorer's game.

The game was good, but we didn't have seats. We got the $1.50 General Admission tickets, which meant... beachers. But, the game was over sold, and there was no bleacher space, so we tried sneaking into the reserved seats, but we were kicked out of those twice, so we stood for the rest of the game by the 1st base fence. We weren't alone, though, the game was so oversold that there were probably 100 fans standing by us. LD and Donkey did end up eating about 13 pieces of free birthday cake, however, so the admission price more than paid for the evening. Sioux City was kicking butt, so we left at the end of the 5th Inning.

Donkey lives about 1 mile from the Stadium (and Lewis Bowl--a kickass sports bar), and when the fireworks went off after the games, the boys thought we were being bombed, because it was so loud. LD and I left during the fireworks, and we drove right under them...it was awesome!

Sunday: Due to the late Saturday night, we woke up a little later than what we wanted, so LD and I left home around 11 a.m. We got to Des Moines around 1:00, but, we got lost, because LD couldn't read the directions I had written out, so we didn't get to the Iowa State Fair until 2. We met up with Ashley and Jessy and headed to the Wellmark arena, which was a good thing, because the front row seats were already taken! We did get 4th row seats, so we had a great view of Dierks and the Terminally Lonesome Band. We patiently waited (ok, I did, LD took a walk around the fair) at the arena to save seats until the show at 6:00. It wasn't so bad, considering all the ISF Dolls were there, but it was hot with only a slight wind to cool us off.

Finally, it was concert time. This was by far my favorite concert! I was close enough to the band that they looked bigger than an ant (the Sioux City show), and I didn't have a lot of tall people in my way (the Lincoln show), so I could see everything! The songs were great (I sang along the entire time, I'm sure I looked like a dork) and it was LOUD, I didn't get full hearing back until today. I was happy to be with people who wanted to be there. It was great to meet Ashley, Bethany, Danette and Jessy!

DB and the TL band always put on a great show, and this was no different. It's no wonder that I get so many hits on JUST ONE OF THE BOYS by Michelle, because she rocked the place! DB's new song, I think it's Come A Little Closer, rocked, also. I'm looking forward to his next album. The band was funny, as usual, but I'm sure the packed arena only made it better. Not only was the arean and bleachers full, but people were packed around the arena way back to the Dip-n-Dot's station, about 50-75 feet away from the arena (the reason I know this was because DB told us, from were I was sitting, I could only see heads and faces packed around the arena).

LD was happy to be there as well (unlike Donkey at the Sioux City show, and Leah at the Lincoln show) once the show got started. He really didn't want to go, but with the parent's gone and me paying for everything he went. He was totally embarrassed twice, though, when DB pointed at him. LD was pissed, however, because we had to leave after the 6:00 show, and coudln't stay to meet DB, or see the 8:00 show. Hey--I may be a mean sister, but he had football practice at 8 a.m. on Monday--and we left after the 6:00 show and didn't get back until 10:30--if we had stayed we woudn't have gotten back until aftet 1:00 a.m. for sure!

But, we left and listened to both of DB's albums and Michelle's single on the way home. I guess I made LD a fan of them both.

So, next DRT is to Clear Lake, Iowa!
