I Forgot to share something earlier: my plans for the next year or so.
Ok, so through some acts of God (mainly many interviews without landing a job), this unemployed girl has just gotten confirmation from her graduate advisor that she may begin graduate school at USD in the January term.
Why the spring semester instead of fall? A couple of reasons, such as the following: not getting my financial aid in on time, because I lost my pin number; a late recommendation from a professor, no TA job; thinking I would teach for another year, going on interviews and not landing the jobs; no financially viable job, yet; and no home in Vermillion.
This will benefit me in many ways, however, such as the following:
- Time to find a viable job and home in Vermillion or Sioux City (Sewer to those of you that actually know the place)
- Being able to start a routine
- Earning some money before I'm writing 20-40 page papers and living on pennies again
- Easier planning for Ph.D.
- and, last but not least...LAS VEGAS, baby!
Yep, I just said Las Vegas! I'm bound and determined to make it there before I turn 25. I've already started to save some money, and I'm going to work my butt off to make more. If I'm going to be in school for 4-6 more years, why not start it off right by crossing one more item off of my "To Do Before I Can't" list.
Waiting doesn't really put me behind too much, either. I already have 6 credits from another graduate school that should transfer over, leaving me with 18 credits to earn at USD. 6 of those credits, however, will be a huge thesis since I'm on a creative writing/British literature plan.
And now, I'm smiling! Before I head to Vegas, however, I have a couple of small trips I make during the sumer. I'm still going to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival (not sure of the dates, I need to look that up), and of course, the Iowa State Fair. I can't miss the famous ISF butter cow, now can I? Oh, and I'm sure that the rumor a good country singer is going to be performing for free on the 22nd has nothing to do with going to Des Moines for the ISF?!
